History of Revesby Heights
The name Revesby was chosen in 1913. It honours Sir Joseph Banks, a famous botanist. He sailed with Captain James Cook when Cook explored Australia's east coast in 1770. Sir Joseph Banks was known as the "Squire of Revesby" because he inherited an estate called Revesby Abbey in England.
Revesby Heights was once known as Hero's Hill. This name was given because many soldiers who returned from World War II settled here. They were able to get affordable government housing in the area. A club for these returned service members, called the Hero's Hill servicemen's club, was started soon after. It later became the Revesby Heights Ex-Servicemen's Club, but it closed in 2013.
