BioTown, USA: A Green Energy Project
In 2005, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture started an exciting project in Reynolds. The goal was to make Reynolds an energy self-sufficient community. This means the town would produce almost all its own energy using local, alternative sources.
This special project was named "BioTown, USA." It involved changing local vehicles to run on ethanol and biodiesel fuels. It also included turning animal waste into electricity and natural gas.
Reynolds was chosen for BioTown, USA for several reasons. It is a good size, easy to reach by road and train, and close to large farms. It is also near Purdue University, which is a big research university. The project has been a slow process, but Reynolds still holds the title of BioTown, USA.
