How the District Was Formed
In 1975, some big changes happened in this part of Germany. The city of Neuss used to be a separate, independent city. But in 1975, it joined with the Grevenbroich district. After this, the district was renamed to Kreis Neuss.
The Name Change in 2003
Later, on May 26, 2003, the district changed its name again. It became officially known as Rhein-Kreis Neuss. The word "Rhein" was added because the famous Rhine River flows nearby.
