Rhiana's Life and Career
Rhiana Griffith was born in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. When she was a child, she started working as a model. She walked in fashion shows and appeared in clothing catalogs. From there, she began acting in television commercials.
Early Acting Roles
Rhiana got her first acting role in an Australian medical TV show called Children's Hospital. Soon after, she got her first movie role as Mercia in the 1998 film 15 Amore. She also won a modeling competition called Model Quest 98 in her age group. Then, she was chosen to play a character named Jack in the science fiction movie Pitch Black. For this role, she had to shave her head!
Acting as a Teenager
Rhiana continued acting while she was a teenager, balancing her career with her schoolwork. She starred in a short film called Desperately Seeking Brandi. This film was shown online by Nike during the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. She acted alongside Brandi Chastain and Oliver Ackland in this film. In the same year, she was also a guest star on an Australian comedy TV show called BackBerner.
In 2001, Rhiana starred in another short film called Search. In 2002, she had a three-month guest role on the popular Australian soap opera Home and Away. After that, she was a guest star on an episode of the crime drama White Collar Blue. In 2003, she appeared in a music video for the song "Running With Scissors" by rocker Ben Lee.
Later Acting and Art Career
In 2004, Rhiana played her character Jack again from Pitch Black in an animated short film called The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury. She also tried out for the role in the main movie sequel to Pitch Black, which was called The Chronicles of Riddick. The movie's producer and star, Vin Diesel, supported her getting the part. However, Rhiana was told she needed to "toughen up" for the role. Even though she worked with a kick-boxing trainer, she only had three weeks to get ready. The role eventually went to another actress, Alexa Davalos.
Also in 2004, Rhiana started her art career seriously. She had two big art shows in galleries. Her first show, called Chrysalis, was in Newcastle, Australia. Her second show, A Month in Kaos, was in Sydney, Australia. Rhiana also acted in another short film called A Whole New You. She was a guest star in an episode of the Australian medical drama All Saints. Towards the end of 2004, Rhiana dressed up as Barbarella for ads promoting the Flickerfest film festival.
In 2005, Rhiana had her third art show. This one was a project with her brother, Damien Griffith, who is a poet. Their show was called Sibling Revelry. They also released a special book with her paintings and his poems together. Rhiana also helped with a Wearable Art Festival, where art is worn like clothing. She planned to launch her own clothing line later that year. She also worked on her second book, which was a children's book. She played the main character, Clare Newell, in a short film called Wrong Answer. This film was planned to continue in a psychological thriller called Volunteer.
Rhiana Griffith has a daughter named Poppy, who was born in 2009.
