Discover Rhododendron
Rhododendron sits in a scenic part of Oregon. It's a place where people can enjoy nature and outdoor activities. The community is surrounded by forests and is close to the famous Mount Hood.
A Look Back in Time
The area where Rhododendron is located has a cool history. A post office was first opened here in 1909. It was initially named "Rowe." This name honored Henry S. Rowe, who was a mayor of Portland, Oregon. He was very interested in making Oregon's beautiful places more popular.
How Rhododendron Got Its Name
The post office name changed a few times. In 1917, it became "Zig Zag," and then shortly after, "Zigzag." This name was later used for a different community nearby. Finally, in 1920, the post office was renamed "Rhododendron." This name was chosen because of the many beautiful rhododendron flowers that grow naturally in the area.
From Summer Fun to Year-Round Living
Rhododendron started out as a place where people would go for summer vacations. It was a popular summer resort colony. However, as skiing became more and more popular, people started visiting the area all year long. Because of this, Rhododendron grew into a community where people live throughout the entire year. It's now a great spot for both summer and winter adventures!
