Ricardo Anaya Cortés (born February 25, 1979) is a Mexican lawyer and politician. He is a member of the National Action Party (PAN), which is a major political party in Mexico. He has served as a senator since 2024.

Anaya has held several important positions in the Mexican government. He was a Federal Deputy in the Mexican Congress. He also served as the President of the Chamber of Deputies, which is like the speaker of one part of Mexico's parliament. From 2015 to 2017, he was the National President of the PAN party. In 2018, he ran for President of Mexico.

Ricardo Anaya's Education

Ricardo Anaya Cortés has a strong academic background. He earned a Bachelor of Law degree with honors from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro.

He also holds a master's degree in Tax Law from Universidad del Valle de México. He completed this degree with honors. Anaya has a Ph.D. in Political Science and Social Studies from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), also with honors.

He has taught Constitutional Law and State Theory at the Law School of Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro.

Political Career and Party Work

Ricardo Anaya Cortés joined the National Action Party (PAN). When he was 21 years old in 2000, he ran for Local Deputy in Querétaro. He helped his party get many more votes than in the previous election.

From 2003 to 2009, he worked as the Private Secretary for the Governor of the State of Querétaro. He also served as the Human Development Coordinator for the state government from 2008 to 2009.

Anaya was a Local Deputy for the State of Querétaro. During this time, he led the National Action Party's group in the state congress.

He became the President of his party's committee in Querétaro from 2010 to 2011. After that, in 2011, he was appointed as the Tourism Planning Undersecretary in the federal government. This role was given to him by the Mexican President, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa.

From 2012 to 2015, he was elected as a Federal Deputy. He served as the President of the Chamber of Deputies from September 2013 to March 2014.

In 2014, Ricardo Anaya became the National President of the PAN party. He took over when the previous president, Gustavo Madero Muñoz, took a break. Anaya had been the General Secretary of the party before this.

In 2015, he ran for the National President position of his party again. He won with a large majority of the votes.

International Engagements

In 2017, Ricardo Anaya Cortés met with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. They discussed important international topics, especially after Donald Trump became President of the United States.

Anaya also gave a speech at George Washington University. He talked about the relationship between Mexico and the United States. He clearly stated that building a wall on the border was "insulting and unacceptable."

Presidential Election 2018

Ricardo Anaya was one of the main candidates for President of Mexico in the general elections held in 2018. He ran as part of a political group that included his PAN party and other parties.

In the polls, Anaya was often in second place behind Andrés Manuel López Obrador. On July 1, 2018, Anaya finished second in the election. He won only the state of Guanajuato, but lost in all other states.
