Playing for Clubs
Riccardo Ferri was born in Crema, Italy. He started his professional football career with Inter Milan in October 1981. He quickly became an important player for Inter, staying with the team for 13 seasons.
During his time at Inter, he helped them win several important titles:
- The Coppa Italia in the 1981–82 season. This is Italy's main cup competition.
- The Scudetto (the Italian league title) in the 1988–89 season. This was a record-breaking win for Inter!
- The 1989 Supercoppa Italiana, which is a super cup played between the league and cup winners.
- Two UEFA Cups (now called the Europa League) in 1991 and 1994. This is a major European club competition.
In 1994, Riccardo Ferri moved to Sampdoria with his teammate Walter Zenga. He played there for two seasons before he stopped playing professional football.
Playing for Italy
Before playing for the senior national team, Ferri represented Italy at the under-21 level. He played in the European Under-21 Championships in 1984 (where Italy finished third) and 1986 (where they finished second).
He then played 45 games for the Italian senior national team and scored 4 goals. His first game for Italy was on December 6, 1986, against Malta. He even scored a goal in that game! His last game for Italy was in 1992.

How He Played
Riccardo Ferri was known as a very strong and determined defender. He was excellent at marking opponents, which means he was very good at staying close to the opposing team's attackers to stop them from scoring.
Even though he had good ball skills, he mostly focused on defending. He was also very good at heading the ball and could often predict what his opponents would do next. Famous Dutch striker Marco van Basten once said that Ferri was one of the toughest defenders he ever played against.
Coaching Career
Riccardo Ferri worked with the Inter Academy Florida, which is a football academy for young players in Florida, USA. Later, on July 25, 2022, he became the Inter Club Manager.
