Richard Leland Bare was a talented American director, producer, and writer. He worked on many Hollywood movies and TV shows. He was born on August 12, 1913, and passed away on March 28, 2015, at the age of 101.

A Creative Career
Richard Bare was born in Turlock, California. He studied filmmaking at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. While there, he directed a famous student film called The Oval Portrait. This movie was based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe.
Working with Warner Bros.
After college, Bare became well-known for writing and directing a series of short films. These were called the Joe McDoakes series. They were made for Warner Bros. between 1942 and 1956. The main character, Joe McDoakes, was played by George O'Hanlon.
Directing TV Shows
Richard Bare directed many popular television shows. He directed seven classic episodes of The Twilight Zone. Some of these famous episodes include "To Serve Man" and "Nick of Time".
He also directed almost every episode of the TV show Green Acres. This show was very popular in the 1960s and 1970s on CBS.
Making Feature Films
Bare also directed full-length movies. Two of his feature films were Shoot-Out at Medicine Bend and Wicked, Wicked. Later in his life, he even worked on plans to bring Green Acres back as a movie and a play.
Writing About Directing
Richard Bare wrote a book about his experiences called Confessions of a Hollywood Director. It shared stories from his work behind the scenes. He also wrote The Film Director: A Practical Guide to Motion Picture and Television Techniques. This book helped teach new filmmakers how to direct.
