Rico is a small place in Imperial County, California. It is not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it is called an unincorporated community.
Rico used to be known by a different name, Brooks Switch. It is located near a railroad line called the Holton Interurban Railroad. This railroad is about 1.25 miles (2 km) west-southwest of a town called Holtville.
Where is Rico Located?
Rico is in the state of California, in a part called Imperial County. This area is known for being very flat and low. In fact, Rico is about 20 feet (6 meters) below sea level. This means it is lower than the ocean!
Being below sea level is special. Many places in the Imperial Valley are also very low. This area is part of the Colorado Desert.
