Jablonski Rico Noel (born January 11, 1989) is an American former professional baseball player. He played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees in 2015.

Rico Noel's Early Life and Baseball Journey

Rico Noel grew up loving sports. He was born in Louisiana. His family later moved to Oklahoma when he was in middle school.

High School Sports Star

Noel went to Lawton High School in Oklahoma. There, he was a star athlete. He played baseball, basketball, and American football. He was good at all of them!

College Baseball Career

Rico decided to focus on baseball. He went to Coastal Carolina University. He played college baseball for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. He started as a second baseman. Later, he became a center fielder in his second year. In 2009, he also played summer baseball. This was with the Cotuit Kettleers team.

Rico Noel began his professional baseball journey in 2010. He played for several teams during his career.

Starting with the San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres picked Rico Noel in the fifth round of the 2010 MLB Draft. This meant they wanted him to play for their team. Noel signed with the Padres. He received a special payment called a signing bonus.

In 2012, Noel played for the Lake Elsinore Storm. This team is part of the Padres' minor league system. He was amazing at stealing bases that year. He stole 90 bases! This is a lot of stolen bases in one season. In 2013, he was named an All-MiLB player for May. He started the 2015 season with the Padres' Triple-A team. But he wanted to try playing for a different team. So, he asked to be released.

Playing for the New York Yankees

The Padres let Noel go in July 2015. Soon after, he signed with the New York Yankees. The Yankees sent him to their Triple-A team. This team was the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

The Yankees called Noel up to the major leagues on September 1, 2015. He played his first major league game on September 2. He came into the game to play defense. On October 3, he got his first chance to bat. He hit a single off a pitcher from the Baltimore Orioles. This was a big moment for him! Noel was also on the Yankees' team for the 2015 American League Wild Card Game. During his time with the Yankees, he stole five bases. After the season, the Yankees removed him from their main roster.

Time with Other Teams

After the Yankees, Rico Noel played for several other teams.

  • Los Angeles Dodgers: He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2015. He played 47 games for their Triple-A team. He stole 13 bases there.
  • Bravos de León: In 2017, he played briefly for the Bravos de León in the Mexican League.
  • Lancaster Barnstormers: He played for the Lancaster Barnstormers in 2017. He stole 34 bases in 56 games.
  • Houston Astros: Later in 2017, he signed with the Houston Astros. He played for their Double-A and Triple-A teams.
  • Lancaster Barnstormers (again): He returned to the Lancaster Barnstormers in 2018. He had a great year, stealing 53 bases!
  • Leones de Yucatán: In 2019, he played for the Leones de Yucatán in Mexico.
  • Sugar Land Skeeters: He then joined the Sugar Land Skeeters in 2019. He stole 45 bases for them.
