Ricoré facts for kids
Ricoré is a special drink made by a company called Nestlé. It was first created in 1953.
What is Ricoré?
Ricoré is a type of instant coffee. This means you can just add hot water or milk to it, and it's ready to drink! It's made from two main things: instant coffee (about 33.2%) and a plant called chicory (about 63%). Chicory is a plant whose root is roasted and ground, often used to make a drink similar to coffee. Ricoré also has a little bit of magnesium sulfate.
You'll mostly find Ricoré in France. It's also sold in places like Belgium, Spain, Portugal, and Poland. Most people like to mix Ricoré with milk. But some mix it with water, and others use both milk and water.
Famous Advertisements
Ricoré is very well-known in France because of its fun advertisements. For many years, from 1981 to about 2005, they had a famous song. The song was called "L'ami du petit-déjeuner, l'ami Ricoré." This means "breakfast's friend, Ricoré."
These commercials often showed different families at breakfast. If there was a small problem or a quiet moment, Ricoré would help make things better! In 2006, they changed their slogan. The new one became "Devenez du matin," which means "become a morning person."
Ricoré in South Africa
In South Africa, there's a similar product called Ricoffy. It was first made in 1952 and was also called Ricory back then. By the early 1970s, its name changed to Ricoffy.
Long ago, some French people called Huguenots came to South Africa. They were the ones who first brought the idea of using chicory with coffee. Because of them, drinks like Ricoffy became a big part of the local coffee culture in South Africa.
