History of Ridgeville
Ridgeville got its name because it is built on a high piece of land, like a ridge. A man named Joab Ward, who had lived in the area since 1819, officially planned the town in 1854. The town has had a post office since 1851.

- Wendell Meredith Stanley (1904–1971) was born in Ridgeville. He was a famous scientist who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1946. He won it for his work on viruses.
