Rinaldo started his professional football career in his home state of Paraíba, Brazil. He first played for Campinense. Later, he moved to their rival team, Treze.
Playing for Brazilian Clubs
Rinaldo played for several important clubs in Brazil.
- From 1987 to 1988, he played 36 games for Santa Cruz. He scored five goals during this time.
- After that, he joined Fluminense. This club is based in Rio de Janeiro. He played 21 games for them and scored seven goals.

It was held at Stadio San Siro in Milan, Italy. Brazil played against a team made up of players from around the world. Brazil lost the game 2–1.
During this match, Rinaldo received a pass from Pelé. Instead of passing the ball back to Pelé, Rinaldo took a shot at the goal. He missed the goal. This moment is remembered because it meant Pelé did not get to score his 1282nd goal in that game.
