Rincón de los Sauces is a town in Argentina. It's located in the Neuquén Province. The town is the main city of the Pehuenches Department. Its name means "Place of the willows" (English: Place of the willows) because many willow trees grow there.
History of Rincón de los Sauces
People first started living in this area a long time ago. This was around the late 1800s and early 1900s. However, a big flood from the Barrancas River destroyed many buildings. This caused many people to leave the area.
After the flood, the main way people made a living was by raising cattle. In 1965, a company called YPF found petroleum (oil) nearby. This discovery made the town grow very quickly.
Rincón de los Sauces officially became a town on December 20, 1970. It was named after the many willow trees that grow in the region.
Economy
Rincón de los Sauces is very important for Argentina's energy. It has been called the National Energy Capital. This is because it holds half of Argentina's known oil and natural gas reserves.
The town also has a regional airport. This helps people and goods travel to and from the area.
