History of Rincón de la Victoria
Ancient Times and Early Settlements
People have lived in Rincón de la Victoria for a very long time. Scientists found proof of humans living here during the Palaeolithic Age. This was a time when early humans used stone tools.
Around 1000 BC, there were walls from an ancient Iberian village. Later, around 50 BC, the Carthaginians set up a port nearby. The Romans then built a strong village called Bezmiliana in this area.
Medieval Period and Decline
When the Moors ruled, Bezmiliana grew into a larger city. An explorer from the 11th century, al-Idrisi, even wrote about it.
After the Catholic Monarchs took control of the area, the town became less important. This quiet period lasted until the 18th century.
