Rita Aleksandri Sargsyan (born Dadayan) was an important public figure in Armenia. She was born on March 6, 1962, and passed away on November 20, 2020. Rita Sargsyan was the wife of Serzh Sargsyan, who served as the President of Armenia from 2008 to 2018. Before her public role, she was a music teacher.
About Rita Sargsyan
Rita Sargsyan married Serzh Sargsyan in 1983. They had two daughters, Anush and Satenik. They also had four grandchildren: Mariam, Rita, Ara, and Serzh.
Her Work as First Lady
As the First Lady of Armenia, Rita Sargsyan supported many good causes. She helped the Donate Life charity foundation. This group assists children who are very sick with blood cancer and other serious illnesses. She also supported the Autism and Aragil national foundations. From 2010, she was the leader of the Board of Trustees for the Donate Life Foundation.
Rita Sargsyan also helped promote culture and music. She supported important international music events. These included the Aram Khachaturian International Contest of Classical Music. She also supported the Yerevan International Music Festival. The Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra hosted this festival.
Her Passing
Rita Sargsyan passed away on November 20, 2020. She was 58 years old. Her death was caused by COVID-19. Many important people shared their sadness. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said she did "valuable social and public activities." He noted her work helped improve cultural life in Armenia. President Armen Sarksyan also visited Serzh Sargsyan to offer his condolences.
