The River Camogue (also spelled Camoge) is a river in Munster, Ireland. It's like a smaller stream that flows into a bigger river. The Camogue flows into the River Maigue, and the Maigue then flows into the even larger River Shannon. Think of it as a family of rivers, with the Shannon being the biggest! The name "Camóg" comes from Irish and means "little crooked river," which is a good way to describe its winding path.

Where Does the River Camogue Flow?

The River Camogue starts its journey in County Tipperary, near a place called Emly. From there, it makes its way into County Limerick.

The Camogue's Path Through Towns

As the river travels, it goes under several roads, like the R513, R514, and R516 near Hospital. Here, another river called the Mahore River joins the Camogue, adding to its flow.

The Camogue then flows north through a village called Herbertstown. After that, it turns west. It passes under more roads, including the R514, R512, and R511.

Where Does the Camogue End?

The river eventually reaches a place called Greybridge. This area is so connected to the river that a local sports club, the Camogue Rovers GAA club, is named after it!

After Greybridge, the Camogue flows under the R516 road one last time. Finally, it empties into the River Maigue in a spot called Anhid East. This meeting point is about 1 mile (1.6 km) upstream from the town of Croom.

What Animals Live in the River Camogue?

The River Camogue is a good place for fishing, especially for a type of fish called brown trout. These fish love the cool, clear waters of the river.

Historical Importance of Camogue Eels

A long time ago, the River Camogue was famous for its "Camogue Eels." These eels were so well-known that they were sold all the way in London as early as the 12th century! That's over 800 years ago!
