Riverchapel (its Irish name is Séipéal na hAbhann) is a lively village in County Wexford, Ireland. It's located right by the Irish Sea coast, just south of Courtown. Many people from Dublin have enjoyed Riverchapel as a summer holiday spot for a long time. They started coming here way back in 1863! This was when a train line from Dublin reached a nearby town called Gorey. The village has grown a lot, especially since the early 2000s. Riverchapel is very close to Courtown, and they have almost joined together.
Both Riverchapel and Courtown are popular places for holidays. You'll find many caravan parks and holiday homes here. In recent years, Riverchapel has grown a lot. New shops have opened, and there are now more things to do. For example, there's a pharmacy and a community sports area. This sports area is great for association football and GAA games. Even though the local Gaelic sports club, Réalt na Mara, is in a nearby village, Riverchapel has its own facilities.
Many new housing estates have been built in Riverchapel. These homes are popular with people who work in Dublin but want to live in a quieter place. They travel (or commute) to Dublin for work. The village of Ardamine is next to Riverchapel, and Gorey is the closest larger town with businesses. In 2016, the total number of people living in the Riverchapel-Courtown area was 6,287. This number includes people living in the areas of Ardamine and Poulshone too.
Getting Around Riverchapel
It's easy to get around Riverchapel using public transport. Two different bus services run through the village.
Bus Services
Transport for Ireland has a bus (Route 389) that goes to Gorey. This bus starts in Poulshone and runs every day, in the mornings and evenings. There's also a local bus service that runs six days a week. This bus goes as far as Ballygarrett. The times for these two buses are different, so they don't clash.
On Mondays and Saturdays, you can catch Bus Éireann route 379. This bus continues on to Wexford town, passing through Curracloe. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, route 879 operates. On Wednesdays, a special bus called the Rural Roadrunner takes people around. It's run by Wexford Local Development.
