Rivière Qui Barre is a small community, called a hamlet, located in central Alberta, Canada. It is part of Sturgeon County. You can find it about 1 kilometer west of Highway 44. It is also about 22 kilometers northwest of the big city of Edmonton.
This hamlet was started in 1885 by settlers who spoke French. They even added a post office in 1895. The name "Rivière Qui Barre" is French for "river that bars the way." This name comes from the Cree name for the nearby river, which is Kipohtakaw.

The Arena: A Place for Ice Hockey
The Rivière Qui Barre Arena is a cool place where people can play ice hockey indoors. In 2017, the Canadian government gave $200,000 to the group that runs the arena, the Rivière Qui Barre Agricultural Society. This money was for upgrades to the arena. It was part of a celebration for Canada's 150th birthday! Later, Sturgeon County added another $100,000 for the renovations.
Camilla School: Learning for Kids
The Sturgeon School Division runs Camilla School right in Rivière Qui Barre. In the 2016–17 school year, about 470 students went to this school. These students were in elementary and junior high grades from the area. In March 2017, the Alberta Minister of Education announced exciting news. A brand new Camilla School will be built by 2021. It will replace the older building that was built way back in 1954.
