Sturgeon County is a special type of local government area in Alberta, Canada. It's located just north of the big city of Edmonton and west of the North Saskatchewan River. This area is named after the Sturgeon River, which flows through it.

History of Sturgeon County
The land that is now Sturgeon County became part of the Crown's (government's) land in 1876. This happened through Treaty 6 with the First Nations people.
The first settlers arrived in the area in 1879. Many of these early families were francophone, meaning they spoke French.
The area was first set up as the Municipal District (MD) of Sturgeon River No. 90 in 1955. It later changed its name to the County of Sturgeon No. 15 in 1961. Then, in 1965, it went back to being the MD of Sturgeon No. 90. Finally, in 1997, its name was officially changed to Sturgeon County.
