Gibbons is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located on Highway 28A, about 37 kilometers (23 miles) northeast of Edmonton. Gibbons sits on the southern banks of the Sturgeon River. This river is a major branch of the North Saskatchewan River.

How Many People Live in Gibbons?
In 2021, the Town of Gibbons had a population of 3,218 people. These residents lived in 1,199 homes. This number was a small increase from its 2016 population of 3,159. The town covers an area of 9.46 square kilometers (3.65 square miles). This means about 340 people live in each square kilometer.

Sports and Fun Activities
Gibbons is a great place for sports and recreation. It has many facilities and teams. Most activities are for young people, but adults can join in too.
Winter Sports: Hockey and Curling
The Gibbons arena is home to many ice hockey teams in winter. The CNN Spurs minor hockey program offers teams for all ages. They have teams from beginners to older teens. There is also a program just for female players.
The Gibbons Jr. C Broncos also play their games at the Gibbons Arena. They are part of the Noralta Junior Hockey League. An adult hockey league, the East Sturgeon Gentlemen's Hockey League, also plays many games here.
Next to the arena is the Gibbons Curling Club. It has four sheets of ice for curling. There is also a lounge with food and drinks. You can watch the games from above the ice. The club has leagues for men, women, and mixed teams. They also host a big junior curling event each year.
Spring and Summer Sports
In spring and summer, you can play minor baseball and soccer. The town has many soccer fields and baseball diamonds. Most are near Landing Trail School and at the Jack Hogg Sports Grounds. A fun slow-pitch baseball league also plays here. They have a big tournament every July.
Growing Popularity of Lacrosse
Lacrosse is becoming very popular with young people in Gibbons. While Gibbons does not have its own teams yet, nearby towns offer programs. You can find teams for all ages in Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, and Edmonton.
Learning and Schools
Gibbons is part of the Sturgeon School Division. The town has several schools for different age groups.
