Rob Edwards, born on June 22, 1963, is an American writer and producer for television and movies. He is well-known for writing the Disney animated films Treasure Planet and The Princess and the Frog. Both of these movies were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, which is a very important award in filmmaking. In 2009, Rob Edwards, along with Ron Clements and John Musker, received the Best Screenplay award from the African-American Film Critics Association for The Princess and the Frog.

Rob Edwards' Early TV Work
After finishing school at the Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Rob Edwards went to Syracuse University. He studied in the Transmedia Department of their College of Visual and Performing Arts.
After college, Edwards moved to Los Angeles and started working as a television writer. He wrote for the popular ABC-TV show Full House. Later, he became a writer, story editor, and consultant for several prime-time TV series. These included Bill Cosby's A Different World and the Golden Globe-nominated show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Rob Edwards was also nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on the long-running comedy show In Living Color. He also created the NBC sitcom Out All Night, which starred Patti LaBelle, Morris Chestnut, and Vivica A. Fox. Throughout the 1990s, Edwards wrote and produced for many TV networks and shows like Roc, The Parent 'Hood, and In the House.
Rob Edwards' Disney Films
After his success in television, Rob Edwards began focusing on feature films. He joined Walt Disney Animation Studios as a writer. His first movie, Treasure Planet, came out in 2002. Famous actors like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Martin Short, Emma Thompson, and Patrick McGoohan lent their voices to the characters.
Even though Treasure Planet did not earn a lot of money at the box office, critics loved it. The film received eight Annie Award nominations and an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
Edwards returned to the big screen with The Princess and the Frog in 2009. This movie was a big success with both critics and audiences. It was nominated for three Oscars, including the Best Animated Feature Oscar.
For both Treasure Planet and The Princess and the Frog, Edwards worked with the Disney Animation team of Ron Clements and John Musker. This team also created other classic Disney films like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. In 2011, Variety magazine reported that Edwards was working on new projects with producers like Robert Zemeckis and Will Smith. In June 2021, it was announced that Rob Edwards would write the script and direct his first animated film, called Sneaks.
