Rob Edwards is a talented American writer and producer for TV shows and movies. He was born on June 22, 1963. He is well-known for writing Disney animated films like Treasure Planet and The Princess and the Frog. Both of these movies were nominated for an Academy Award (also known as an Oscar) for Best Animated Feature. In 2009, Rob Edwards and his co-writers, Ron Clements and John Musker, won an award for Best Screenplay from the African-American Film Critics Association for The Princess and the Frog.

Early Career in Television
After finishing school at Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Rob Edwards studied at Syracuse University. He then moved to Los Angeles to start his career as a writer for television.
He quickly found success, writing for popular TV shows like Full House. He also worked as a writer and story editor for other prime time series. These included Bill Cosby's A Different World and the famous show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Edwards was also nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on the comedy show In Living Color. He even created his own TV show called Out All Night, which starred famous actors like Patti LaBelle and Vivica A. Fox. Throughout the 1990s, Rob Edwards wrote and produced for many TV networks and shows.
Writing for Movies
Later, Rob Edwards started focusing on writing for movies. He joined Walt Disney Animation Studios as a writer. His first movie with Disney was Treasure Planet, which came out in 2002. This animated film featured the voices of well-known actors like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emma Thompson.
Even though Treasure Planet didn't make a lot of money at the box office, critics loved it. It received eight Annie Award nominations and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Edwards returned to the big screen with The Princess and the Frog in 2009. This movie was a huge success with both critics and audiences. It was nominated for three Oscars, including Best Animated Feature.
For both Treasure Planet and The Princess and the Frog, Edwards worked closely with the talented Disney Animation directors Ron Clements and John Musker. They are also known for directing classic Disney films like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.
In 2021, it was announced that Rob Edwards would write the script for an animated movie called Sneaks. He is also set to direct this film, which will be his first time directing a movie.
