Treasure Planet is an exciting animated science fiction movie from 2002. It was made by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures on November 27, 2002. This movie is the 43rd animated film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics collection.
The story of Treasure Planet is based on the famous adventure novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was the first movie ever to be shown in both regular movie theaters and IMAX theaters at the same time. The film mixes traditional hand-drawn animation with newer 3D computer animation.
Ron Clements and John Musker worked together to write, produce, and direct the movie. They first thought of the idea for Treasure Planet when they were also planning The Little Mermaid. Many talented actors lent their voices to the characters. These include Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Brian Murray, David Hyde Pierce, Martin Short, and Emma Thompson.
The music for the movie was created by James Newton Howard. The songs were written and sung by John Rzeznik. Even though many people liked the movie, it did not earn a lot of money in movie theaters. It cost $140 million to make. However, it only made about $38 million in the United States and Canada. Worldwide, it earned almost $110 million. Despite this, Treasure Planet was nominated for an Academy Award in 2002 for Best Animated Feature.
