Exploring Robeline's Past
Robeline has a very interesting history! For 50 years, it was once the capital of Texas. At that time, Robeline was controlled by Spain. A nearby creek formed the border between Spanish Texas and French Louisiana.
The Railroad and Robeline's Growth
Between 1870 and 1917, a railroad was built through Robeline and a nearby town called Marthaville, Louisiana. This railroad helped Robeline become a busy and wealthy place. However, the railroad stopped being used in 1960. After that, Robeline became much quieter. Today, you can find a convenience store, a dollar store, and several churches there. There's also a lot of beautiful wilderness around the village.
Historic Buildings and Local News
In the 1880s, Robeline even had its own weekly newspaper, called the Robeline Reporter. A famous old building, the Keegan House, is also located in Robeline. It was once part of a large plantation.

Robeline is located at 31°41′27″N 93°18′15″W / 31.69083°N 93.30417°W. The United States Census Bureau says the village covers about 1.19 square miles (3.08 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the village limits.

In 2000, there were 183 people living in Robeline. About 77% of the people were White, and nearly 17.5% were African American. About 5.5% were Native American. The average age of people living in Robeline was 38 years old.
Learning in Robeline
The Natchitoches Parish School Board manages the public schools in the area. The old Robeline public school, whose mascot was the Bulldogs, closed in 1980. This happened because of a federal order to end racial segregation in schools. After the school closed, elementary students went to school in nearby Marthaville. High school students traveled by bus to Natchitoches Central High School.
Fun Things to Do
Robeline hosts the annual Robeline Heritage Festival. This fun event takes place on the first weekend of October. Many local musicians have performed there, along with famous singers like Percy Sledge.
The Adai Caddo Indians of Louisiana also hold an annual powwow at their cultural center and museum in Robeline. A powwow is a special gathering for Native American people to celebrate their culture.
St. Anne Catholic Church
On the north side of Robeline, you can find the historic St. Anne Catholic Church. This church started as a mission, which is like a smaller church connected to a larger one. It was part of the St. Augustine Parish. In 1856, St. Augustine at Isle Brevelle became its own parish. The St. Augustine Church then helped serve four other churches, including St. Anne's at Spanish Lake, which served the Adai Caddo Indians. Today, St. Anne Catholic Church is a mission of the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Powhatan.
Native American Heritage
The Adai Caddo Indians of Louisiana are a Native American tribe. Their cultural center, museum, and ceremonial grounds are located right in Robeline. This is an important place for them to share and preserve their traditions.
