Robert Alastair Addie (born February 10, 1960 – died November 20, 2003) was an English actor. He was well-known for playing Sir Guy of Gisburne in the 1980s TV show Robin of Sherwood.

Early Life and Training
Robert Addie was born in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England. His father owned stables. Robert went to Marlborough College for his education.
After school, he first worked as a trainee estate agent in Argentina. An estate agent helps people buy and sell land. He then came back to England. In 1976, at age 16, he joined the National Youth Theatre in London. This is a special group for young actors.
Later, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). This is a famous acting school. He left RADA after one year. He got a big role as Mordred in the 1981 film Excalibur.
Acting Career Highlights
Robert Addie was also a professional polo player. Polo is a sport played on horseback. His skills with horses, swords, and bows were very good. Because of this, he often acted in historical dramas. These shows were usually set in the medieval time.
In the early 1980s, he appeared in many British TV commercials. He advertised things like wall filler and cakes. He also acted in plays. These included Journey's End in 1981 and Conduct Unbecoming in 1982.
Famous Film and TV Roles
His most famous movie role was Prince Mordred in John Boorman's Excalibur (1981). He also appeared in Another Country (1984).
On television, Robert Addie played Stalky in a 1982 BBC mini-series. This show was based on Rudyard Kipling's book Stalky & Co.. In 1987, he was in the mini-series I'll Take Manhattan. He also played Lord Peter Gillingham in A Hazard of Hearts.
His role as Sir Guy of Gisburne in Robin of Sherwood made him very famous. This TV series ran from 1984 to 1986.
Returning to Acting
In 1989, Robert Addie stopped acting for a while. He lived in Spain and the United States. He returned to acting in 1995. He performed in plays with the Exiled Theatre Company.
In 1995, he acted in Shades in Time - Martyrs. This play was performed inside Gloucester Cathedral. He also played a mouse in Shades in Time - The Docks. This play was part of the 1995 Gloucester Festival. In 1996, he was in new plays like Edmund, Son of Gloucester. He also played St Columba in Into the Mist. This play was set in early medieval Scotland.
After this, he started acting in films and TV shows again. He also appeared in TV commercials in 1998.
Personal Life and Passing
Robert Addie had three children. He passed away on November 20, 2003. He was 43 years old. He died in Cheltenham General Hospital due to lung cancer. This was less than three weeks after he found out he had the illness.
On the tenth anniversary of his death, fans honored him. They planted a cherry tree with a special plaque. This tree is in the Jack Gardner Memorial Garden in Cirencester.
