Robert Marion "Fighting Bob" La Follette, Sr. (June 14, 1855 – June 18, 1925) was an important American politician. He was a Republican from Wisconsin. He served as a U.S. Senator for Wisconsin from 1906 until he passed away in 1925. He also ran for President in 1924. Many people consider him one of the greatest Senators in American history.

Robert La Follette's Early Life
Robert La Follette was born on June 14, 1855. His birthplace was Primrose, Wisconsin. His family had roots in England, Scotland, and France. He went to college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Family Life and Passing
Robert La Follette married Belle Case La Follette in 1881. They were married until his death in 1925. They had four children together. Robert La Follette passed away on June 18, 1925. He was 70 years old. He died in Washington, D.C. from a heart condition.
La Follette's Political Career
Robert La Follette had a long career in politics. He held several important jobs. He was known for fighting for what he believed in. This earned him the nickname "Fighting Bob."
Serving in Congress
La Follette first served in the U.S. House of Representatives. He represented Wisconsin's 3rd district. He was a member of Congress from 1885 to 1891.
Governor of Wisconsin
After his time in Congress, La Follette became the Governor of Wisconsin. He served as governor from 1901 to 1906. As governor, he brought many changes to the state.
United States Senator
In 1906, La Follette became a U.S. Senator for Wisconsin. He held this position until he died in 1925. As a senator, he worked on many important issues. He was a strong voice for the Progressive Movement.
