Robert Witold Makłowicz (born August 12, 1963) is a famous Polish food critic, journalist, historian, and television personality. He is well-known for sharing his love of Polish cuisine and promoting the idea of slow food. Many people know him from his popular TV show, Makłowicz w podróży (Makłowicz on the Road).

Robert Makłowicz was born in 1963 in Kraków, Poland. His father, Włodzimierz, was a sailor, and his mother was Beata. Robert has a diverse family background, including Ukrainian, Polish, Hungarian, and Austrian roots.
Early Interests and Journalism
While studying history at the Jagiellonian University, Robert became very interested in European cuisine. After communism ended in Poland in 1993, he jokingly showed a friend a recipe for wiener schnitzel he had made. This led to an unexpected job offer! He became a food critic for the Kraków version of the Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper.
His articles about restaurants in Kraków quickly became very popular. Because of this, he started writing for the national weekly magazine of Gazeta Wyborcza. He also worked with other well-known newspapers like Przekrój, Wprost, and Newsweek Polska.
Television Career and Popularity
In 1996, Robert Makłowicz got a chance to have a short cooking segment on public TV. Even though it was shown in the mornings, his program became very popular. In August 1998, he started his own weekly show called Robert Makłowicz's Culinary Travels.
Each episode of his show takes viewers to a different part of the world. He explores the local food, often cooking it himself or learning from local people who are not professional chefs. In 2016, he even appeared on a cooking show called Bake-Off. Ale Ciacho! on the TVP2 channel.
In 2017, the TV company TVP stopped working with Makłowicz. However, his show Makłowicz on the Road continued to be shown on the Polish Food Network.
Online Presence and Other Work
In 2020, Robert Makłowicz started his own channel on YouTube, where he continues to share his culinary adventures. From 2020 to 2021, he also hosted a music show called "From punk rock to Bartók" on an internet radio station. In March 2024, he was asked to join the Council of the Historical Museum of Kraków by the city's mayor.
Personal Life
Robert Makłowicz has a younger sister named Dominika. In 1991, he married Agnieszka Pogoda. They have two sons together: Mikołaj, born in 1992, and Ferdynand, born in 1996. Robert is a member of the Armenian Catholic faith.
