Robert Witold Makłowicz (born August 12, 1963) is a well-known Polish expert on food, a writer, and a TV personality. He is famous for promoting Polish cuisine and a style of eating called slow food. Slow food means enjoying meals, using local ingredients, and cooking in traditional ways. Robert Makłowicz is most recognized for his cooking TV shows, especially Makłowicz w podróży (which means Makłowicz on the Road).

Robert Makłowicz's Early Life and Career
Robert Makłowicz was born in 1963 in the city of Kraków, Poland. His father, Włodzimierz, was a sailor, and his mother was Beata. Robert has a mix of family backgrounds, including Ukrainian, Polish, Hungarian, and Austrian roots. His family name, Makłowicz, used to be Mokłowicz.
How Robert Makłowicz Started His Career
While studying history at the Jagiellonian University, Robert became very interested in European cooking. After communism ended in Poland in 1993, he jokingly showed a friend a recipe for wiener schnitzel he had made. This led to an offer to become a food critic for a local newspaper in Kraków, Gazeta Wyborcza.
His articles about restaurants in Kraków quickly became very popular. Because of this, he started writing for the national weekly magazine of Gazeta Wyborcza. He also wrote for other big newspapers like Przekrój, Wprost, and Newsweek Polska.
Robert Makłowicz's TV Shows
In 1996, Robert was offered a short cooking show on public TV in Poland. Even though it was not shown during prime time, the show became very popular. In August 1998, he started his weekly show called Robert Makłowicz's Culinary Travels.
In this show, Robert travels to different parts of the world. He explores the local food and shows how it's made. Sometimes he cooks himself, and sometimes local people, who might not even be professional chefs, show their recipes. In 2016, he also appeared on a cooking show called Bake-Off. Ale Ciacho!
In 2017, the TV station TVP stopped working with Makłowicz. His show Makłowicz on the Road then moved to the Polish Food Network channel.
Robert Makłowicz's Online Presence
In 2020, Robert Makłowicz started his own channel on YouTube. This channel became very popular, allowing him to share his cooking adventures with an even wider audience. Between 2020 and 2021, he also hosted a music show on an internet radio station called Newonce.radio. In March 2024, he was asked to join the Council of the Historical Museum of Kraków.
Robert Makłowicz's Family Life
Robert Makłowicz has a younger sister named Dominika. In 1991, he married Agnieszka Pogoda. They have two sons together: Mikołaj, born in 1992, and Ferdynand, born in 1996. Robert is a member of the Armenian Catholic Church.
