Robert Worden Jr. (born March 10, 1809 – died May 5, 1893) was an important politician from Michigan. He served in the state government and helped his local community.

Robert Worden Jr.'s Early Life

Robert Worden Jr. was born on March 10, 1809. His parents were Robert and Lucy Worden. In August 1832, he married Orpha M. Fairbank in Eaton, New York.

On April 1, 1834, Robert and his family moved to Michigan. They traveled all the way from Fairport, New York in a covered wagon. When they arrived, Robert built a log cabin. As early settlers, they faced challenges living in the wild. One problem was dealing with small animals like the deer mouse. To solve this, Robert got a cat from Adrian, Michigan to help keep the mice away.

Serving His Community

Robert Worden Jr. was a farmer by trade. He also dedicated much of his life to public service. In 1836, he worked as a school inspector for Pittsford. He helped make sure local schools were running well.

From 1848 to 1852, Robert served as the treasurer for Hillsdale County. This meant he was in charge of the county's money. On November 2, 1852, he was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives. He represented the Hillsdale County 3rd district. He served in this role from January 5, 1853, to December 31, 1854. While working in the state legislature, Robert lived in Hudson, Michigan. Later in life, around 1888, he lived in Owosso, Michigan. In 1872, Robert also served as president of the Hillsdale County Agricultural Society. This group helped farmers and promoted agriculture in the area.

Family and Later Years

Robert Worden Jr. and his wife, Orpha, had four children together. Sadly, his wife passed away in 1881. Robert was also a member of the Freemasons, a fraternal organization.

Robert Worden Jr. died on May 5, 1893. He passed away at his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after being sick for about a year. He was buried at Goodrich Cemetery in Pittsford.
