Robert William Young (born 16 March 1933) is a British director. He makes films and TV shows. He is known for directing many popular British dramas.

Life and Career Highlights

Robert Young was born in Cheltenham, England. In the 1980s and early 1990s, he became a top director for British TV.

Early Works and TV Dramas

In the 1970s, Robert Young directed the film Vampire Circus (1972). He also directed Soldier's Home (1977). He even directed an episode of Hammer House of Horror.

In the early 1980s, he directed episodes of two popular TV shows. These were Minder and Bergerac. He also directed The Mad Death. This TV series was about a serious outbreak of rabies.

Perhaps his most famous TV work was on Robin of Sherwood. He directed many of the best episodes of this show. Fans really enjoyed his work on it.

Moving to Comedy and Films

In the early 1990s, Robert Young started directing more comedies. He directed Jeeves and Wooster. This show was based on funny stories by P.G. Wodehouse. He also directed G.B.H.. This show was so good that he was nominated for a BAFTA award. A BAFTA is a major award for film and television in Britain.

Because of his work on G.B.H., he was chosen to direct Fierce Creatures. This 1997 film was a follow-up to A Fish Called Wanda. It starred many of the same actors from G.B.H.. However, the movie's production had some difficulties. Another director, Fred Schepisi, helped finish the film.

Despite this, Robert Young did direct another film called Splitting Heirs. This movie starred famous comedians John Cleese and Eric Idle.

Recent Projects

Robert Young has continued to work on TV dramas. In 2016, he returned to direct Robin of Sherwood again. This time, it was for an audio drama. An audio drama is like a play you listen to. It was called Robin of Sherwood: The Knights Of The Apocalypse. The original TV series cast members were in it. The story was written by Richard Carpenter before he passed away in 2012. The audio drama was released in May 2016.
