Robert Young's Career in Film and TV
Robert Young was born in Cheltenham, England. He became a well-known director of British TV dramas in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Early Work in the 1970s
In the 1970s, Young directed the film Vampire Circus (1972). He also directed Soldier's Home (1977). He even directed an episode of Hammer House of Horror.
Directing Popular TV Shows
In the early 1980s, Robert Young directed several episodes of famous TV shows. These included Minder and Bergerac. He also directed a TV series called The Mad Death. This show was about a rabies outbreak.
One of his most remembered TV works was Robin of Sherwood. He directed many of the most popular episodes of this show.
Moving to Comedy Films
In the early 1990s, Young started directing black comedies. He directed Jeeves and Wooster, which was based on stories by P.G. Wodehouse. He also directed G.B.H.. For G.B.H., he was nominated for a BAFTA award.
Because of his work on G.B.H., he was chosen to direct Fierce Creatures in 1997. This film was a follow-up to A Fish Called Wanda by John Cleese. Many of the same actors from G.B.H. were in Fierce Creatures. Young also directed Splitting Heirs, which starred John Cleese and Eric Idle.
Recent Projects
Robert Young has continued to work on television dramas. In 2016, he returned to direct an audio drama for Robin of Sherwood. This audio drama was called Robin of Sherwood: The Knights Of The Apocalypse. It featured the original actors from the TV series. The story was written by Richard Carpenter before he passed away in 2012. The audio drama was released in May 2016.
