Roberto Conrado Kelly (born October 1, 1964) is a baseball manager from Panama. He used to be a professional baseball outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was signed by the New York Yankees in 1982. He played for many teams during his career. In Panama, people called him La Sombra, which means The Shadow. After playing, he became a coach and manager. He is currently the manager for the Sultanes de Monterrey team in the Mexican League.

Roberto Kelly's Baseball Journey

Starting with the New York Yankees (1987–1992)

Roberto Kelly first played in MLB with the New York Yankees in 1987. A cool moment happened in 1989. He hit a double in the ninth inning. This stopped a perfect game by pitcher Dave Stieb of the Toronto Blue Jays. Kelly was chosen for the American League All-Star team in 1992. This means he was one of the best players that year!

Playing for the Cincinnati Reds (1993–1994)

After the 1992 season, the Yankees traded Kelly. He went to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for another player, Paul O'Neill. While with the Reds, Kelly was again picked as an All-Star. This time, it was for the National League All-Star team in 1993.

Moving to the Atlanta Braves (1994)

On May 29, 1994, the Reds traded Kelly again. He joined the Atlanta Braves. This trade involved Deion Sanders, another famous player.

Short Time with the Montreal Expos (1995)

The Braves traded Kelly to the Montreal Expos on April 6, 1995. This trade also included Tony Tarasco and Esteban Yan. They were traded for Marquis Grissom.

Joining the Los Angeles Dodgers (1995)

Just one month later, the Expos traded Kelly again. He went to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Joey Eischen also went with him. They were traded for Henry Rodríguez and Jeff Treadway.

Time with the Minnesota Twins (1996–1997)

After the 1995 season, Kelly became a free agent. This means he could sign with any team. He chose to sign with the Minnesota Twins for the 1996 season.

On January 17, 2018, Kelly was announced as the new manager for the Sultanes de Monterrey. This team is part of the Mexican Baseball League.

Roberto Kelly is married to Blanca Gonzalez Kelly. She is the sister of another baseball player, Juan González. Roberto and Blanca have seven sons: Roberto Jr., Roberto Bryan, Xavier, Ryan, Johaun, Jacques, and Jadrien. They also have three daughters: Charlene, Rhianna, and Bianca.
