Robin Jarvis facts for kids
Robin Jarvis (born May 8, 1963) is a British author who writes exciting books for young people. He is known for his young adult fiction (YA) and children's novels. His stories often feature dark fantasy, thrilling suspense, and supernatural events.
His books for older readers include many different worlds. For example, The Witching Legacy tells about a town by the sea fighting a huge evil with help from a magical guardian. In The Hagwood Trilogy, tiny shapeshifters called Werglers battle against powerful faerie armies. Dancing Jax explores a scary future where a special book can switch between worlds. The Wyrd Museum series features ancient Norse Fates, crow-demons from Glastonbury, and a talking teddy bear who travels through time. The Whitby Witches trilogy is set on the North Yorkshire coast, where dark powers and old evils awaken. The Oaken Throne is an epic medieval adventure. And Deathscent is a science-fiction story about a different Tudor time, with robot servants and animals, ruled by Queen Elizabeth I.
For younger readers, Robin Jarvis writes about anthropomorphic animals, especially mice. His famous The Deptford Mice series is a great example. Many of his stories take place in London, especially around Deptford and Greenwich, where he used to live. Other settings include Felixstowe and Whitby. Whitby is the main place for The Whitby Witches trilogy and his newest series, The Witching Legacy. His very first novel, The Dark Portal, which stars the popular Deptford Mice, was a runner-up for the Smarties book prize in 1989. People have called his work "original, spooky, unusual, and supernatural fantasy." Even though he says he doesn't write "horror," his books are sometimes compared to those by Stephen King, but for young adults. The Deptford Mice was even turned into a play in 2010 and 2011.
