A Look Back at Robinson's History
Robinson was founded a long time ago, in 1880. When it was first created, it had a different name: Garfield. It was named after James A. Garfield, who had just been elected as the President of the United States.
This community started out as a "brickyard town." This means it was a place where factories made bricks. The Garfield Fire Clay Company was a big part of Robinson's early days. This company made special heat-resistant bricks, called refractories, in Robinson and the nearby town of Bolivar. They operated their factories from 1887 until 1979.
