Robyn A. Crittenden is an American lawyer from the state of Georgia. She is known for her important roles in public service. She made history as the first African-American woman to hold a major statewide job in Georgia. She served as the 28th Georgia Secretary of State.

Robyn Crittenden's Life and Work
Early Life and Education
Robyn Crittenden studied at two well-known universities. She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Arts, from Yale University. Later, she went to the University of Michigan Law School. There, she earned her law degree, called a Juris Doctor.
A Career in Public Service
Before working for the state of Georgia, Crittenden had several important jobs. She was a general counsel for Morehouse College. This means she was the main lawyer for the college. She also worked for the Georgia Board of Regents. There, she was an assistant vice chancellor for legal affairs. She also served as an assistant county attorney for DeKalb County, Georgia.
Serving as Secretary of State
In 2018, Robyn Crittenden became the 28th Secretary of State for Georgia. This happened after Brian Kemp resigned from the position. Governor Nathan Deal appointed her to finish his term. The Secretary of State is a very important job. They oversee elections and keep official state records. Crittenden served in this role from November 8, 2018, to January 14, 2019.
Leading State Departments
Robyn Crittenden has also led two major state departments. In 2015, Governor Nathan Deal appointed her as the Commissioner of the Department of Human Services. This department helps families and children in Georgia. After her time as Secretary of State, she returned to this role.
In June 2021, Governor Brian Kemp appointed her to lead the Georgia Department of Revenue. This department collects taxes for the state. She took over from David Curry. She continues to serve in this role today.
