Rockland Township covers about 93.82 square miles (243.0 km2). Most of this area, about 92.75 square miles (240.2 km2), is land. The rest, about 1.07 square miles (2.8 km2), is water.
Communities in Rockland Township
Rockland Township is home to a few interesting communities.
Rockland Community
Rockland is a community within the township. It is not officially a city or town, but it is a recognized place. The Rockland Mine opened here in 1847. A post office for Rockland started in 1853.
Over time, a few smaller settlements grew in the area. These included Rosendale, Williamsburg, and Webster. In 1864, these three areas joined together to form the community of Rockland. Today, Rockland has its own post office with the ZIP Code 49960.
Victoria Community
Victoria was another settlement in the township. It was built for workers at the Victoria Mine. This mine was funded by people from Britain and was named after Queen Victoria.
A post office opened in Victoria in 1899. However, the mine closed in 1921. After the mine closed, the village was abandoned. The post office stayed open until 1935, but eventually, Victoria became a ghost town.

Rockland Township has been the birthplace of some notable people.
- Jack Carkeek was a famous professional wrestler in the late 1800s. He was born in Rockland.
- Joseph G. Pinten was a Roman Catholic bishop. He was also born in Rockland.
