Rockport is a small city in Ohio County, Kentucky, United States. In 2020, about 262 people lived there. The city gets its name from the large rocks found on a nearby river bank.

History of Rockport

Rockport started as a small settlement called Benton's Ferry. This community grew along the Green River in the early 1800s.

In 1863, a post office was opened. The settlement then began using the name "Rock Port." Later, the name was shortened to just one word: Rockport. At first, the town was mostly right next to the river. Over time, most of the city moved to the higher ground, or bluff, above the river.

Rockport is located at 37°20′11″N 86°59′34″W / 37.33639°N 86.99278°W / 37.33639; -86.99278. It sits along the Green River. This is northeast of a city called Central City. A main road, U.S. Route 62, goes through Rockport.

The city covers a total area of about 0.74 square miles (1.91 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, and a small part is water.
