Rocksdale is a small place in Calhoun County, West Virginia, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Rocksdale is located where two rivers, the Henry Fork and the West Fork Little Kanawha River, meet. This meeting point is called a "confluence." The community is found along County Route 9. It is about 7.5 miles (12.1 km) east-northeast of a town called Spencer.

What's in a Name?

Rocksdale got its name from a cool rock formation nearby. This natural feature was important enough to inspire the name of the whole community.

A Look Back at Rocksdale

In the late 1800s, Rocksdale had a post office. It also had a country store. These places were important gathering spots for people living in the area. They served as the heart of the community. Today, the post office is no longer open.
