Rockstar is a popular energy drink that started in 2001. It is one of the biggest energy drink brands in the world. As of 2020, it was the third most popular energy drink, after Red Bull and Monster Energy. Rockstar's main office is in Purchase, New York. By 2013, Rockstar Energy Drink was sold in over 30 countries and came in more than 20 different flavors. Since March 2020, Rockstar has been owned by PepsiCo.

How Rockstar Started

Rockstar was created in 2001 by a person named Russ Weiner. At that time, energy drinks were becoming very popular in the United States. Rockstar wanted to be different from other energy drinks, especially Red Bull.

Bigger Cans, Same Price

Rockstar decided to sell its drinks in bigger cans. Their cans were 16 ounces, while Red Bull's were 8 ounces. Rockstar used the slogan "twice the size of Red Bull for the same price." This helped them get noticed by many people.

Growing Popularity

By 2007, Rockstar was one of the top three energy drink brands in North America. Their sales grew very quickly. They had sold over a billion cans by then. In 2008, Rockstar had 14% of the energy drink market in the US. By 2009, you could find Rockstar in over 20 countries around the world.

New Owners

Rockstar changed how its drinks were delivered in 2009. They switched from the Coca-Cola Company to PepsiCo. Then, in 2020, PepsiCo bought Rockstar Energy for a lot of money. After this, in 2021, the "Original" Rockstar drink got a new flavor and a new can design.

What's Inside Rockstar

Original Rockstar Energy Drink has several ingredients. It contains sugar and caffeine. It also has herbs like panax ginseng, ginkgo biloba, milk thistle extract, and guarana-seed extract. It also includes 1000 mg of taurine.

Caffeine Levels

Rockstar products in the US have different amounts of caffeine. Some have 10 mg of caffeine per ounce. Others have 15 mg of caffeine per ounce. For example, a 16-ounce can of Rockstar Energy Drink Original has 160 mg of caffeine. The Rockstar Punched and Pure Zero energy drinks have more caffeine, with 240 mg per 16-ounce can.

Rockstar Sponsorships

Just like other big energy drink brands, Rockstar helps pay for many sports and music events. They often support action sports and rock music.

Sports and Music Events

Rockstar used to sponsor the Mayhem Festival. This was a metal and rock music festival that traveled across the United States. They also sponsored the Uproar Festival, which was another rock festival. Both of these events stopped in 2015. Rockstar also supports the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series.

Athletes and Drivers

Rockstar also sponsors many athletes who compete in action sports. This includes motorcycle riders like Gautier Paulin, Graham Jarvis, and Pablo Quintanilla. They have also sponsored race car drivers like Tanner Foust and Scott Speed, and off-road truck driver Rob MacCachren.
