However, more people are visiting now. This means it's more common to see litter, damaged climbing gear, and even graffiti. It's important to keep this natural area clean for everyone.
Rocktown is part of a wildlife management area. This means you might see wild animals like deer, wild turkeys, or even black bears. You could also spot snakes, bobcats, wasps, or spiders. Sometimes, you might even see a bat in the caves or grottoes.
The main "Rock Town" area is about one mile from the trail's start. It opens into a large space with five main paths. Here, you'll find hundreds of amazing rock shapes. There's also a big cave entrance and two natural springs.

Where is Rocktown Located?
Rocktown used to be a secret spot known only to local people and a few climbers. Now, more people know about it. It is located on top of Pigeon Mountain in the very northwest part of Georgia.
This area is part of the Crockford Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area. The State of Georgia's Department of Natural Resources takes care of it. Rocktown is northwest of Atlanta Georgia. It is also just south of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The closest town to the trail is LaFayette, Georgia. To visit this wildlife area, you need a hunting or fishing license. You can also get a Georgia Lands Pass.
Fun Things to Do at Rocktown
Rock climbing is the most popular activity at Rocktown. But there are many other fun things to do! You can also go hiking on the trails. Some people enjoy bird watching to see different types of birds. It's also a nice place for a picnic with friends or family.
Hunting is allowed in some parts of the wildlife management area. However, camping is not allowed directly at Rocktown. You can camp in other special areas within the wildlife management area.
