Roderick Dwayne Higgins (born January 31, 1960) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He also worked as an executive for the National Basketball Association (NBA) team, the Charlotte Hornets. Rod is the father of Cory Higgins, who also played basketball as a point guard for the Charlotte Bobcats.
Rod Higgins is 6 feet 7 inches tall and played as a forward. He played for 13 seasons in the NBA, from 1982 to 1994. During his career, he played for several teams, including the Chicago Bulls, Seattle SuperSonics, San Antonio Spurs, New Jersey Nets, Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, and Cleveland Cavaliers. On average, he scored 9 points per game and got 3.6 rebounds per game during his time in the NBA.

Playing Career Highlights
After playing college basketball at California State University, Fresno, Rod Higgins was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1982. He spent many years playing for different teams across the NBA. He was known for his skills as a forward.
Rod Higgins holds a special NBA record. In the 1985–86 season, he played for four different teams in just one season. These teams were the Seattle SuperSonics, the San Antonio Spurs, the New Jersey Nets, and the Chicago Bulls. This shows how much he moved around during his playing days!
Life After Playing Basketball
After his playing career ended in 1994, Rod Higgins stayed involved in basketball. He became an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors until the year 2000.
Then, he moved into the management side of basketball. He was named the assistant general manager for the Washington Wizards. In 2004, he returned to the Golden State Warriors. He worked in their front office with his former teammate, Chris Mullin.
Working as an Executive
On May 31, 2007, Rod Higgins became the general manager for the Charlotte Hornets (which were called the Charlotte Bobcats at the time). He took over from Bernie Bickerstaff.
In 2011, he got an even bigger role. He became the team's president of basketball operations. This happened after Rich Cho was hired as the new general manager. Rod Higgins stepped down from his role as President of Basketball Operations for the Charlotte Hornets on June 13, 2014.
