Roderick Dwayne Higgins (born January 31, 1960) is an American former professional basketball player. After his playing career, he became a leader in basketball management. He used to be the president of basketball operations for the National Basketball Association's Charlotte Hornets. Rod Higgins is also the father of former Charlotte Bobcats player Cory Higgins.

Rod Higgins's Playing Career
Rod Higgins was a tall player, standing 6 feet 7 inches. He played as a forward in basketball. He played for 13 seasons in the NBA, from 1982 to 1994.

During his time in the NBA, Higgins played for several teams. These included the Chicago Bulls, the Seattle SuperSonics, the San Antonio Spurs, the New Jersey Nets, the Golden State Warriors, the Sacramento Kings, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
He scored about 9 points per game and grabbed 3.6 rebounds per game during his NBA career.
Playing in the CBA
Higgins also played for the Tampa Bay Thrillers in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). This was during the 1985–86 season. He helped his team win the CBA championship that year. He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the CBA Playoffs/Finals.
A Unique NBA Record
Rod Higgins holds a special NBA record. He played for the most teams in a single season, playing for four different teams. This happened during the 1985–86 season. He played for the Seattle Supersonics, the San Antonio Spurs, the New Jersey Nets, and the Chicago Bulls all in that one season.
After Playing: A Career in Management
After he stopped playing basketball, Rod Higgins continued to work in the sport. He became an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors until the year 2000.
Working in the Front Office
In 2000, Higgins became the assistant general manager for the Washington Wizards. He later returned to the Golden State Warriors in 2004. There, he worked in the team's front office with his former teammate, Chris Mullin.
Leading the Charlotte Hornets
On May 31, 2007, Higgins was hired as the general manager for the Charlotte Hornets. At that time, they were known as the Charlotte Bobcats. In 2011, he took on an even bigger role. He became the team's president of basketball operations. He stepped down from this position on June 13, 2014.
