In the film Meek's Cutoff, Rod played a mysterious Native American character. This character helps a group of pioneers who are lost on the Oregon Trail. Rod spoke his own native language in this role.

Rod got his first main role in the 2015 movie Mekko. He played a man who had been in prison for 19 years. After being released, his family didn't want him around. He had to learn to live with his new situation. He also faced challenges from a violent man, played by Zahn McClarnon.
