Michael Greyeyes was born on June 4, 1967. He is a talented actor, dancer, choreographer, and director. Michael is a member of the First Nations community, specifically from the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation.
He has played many important roles in movies and TV shows. For example, he played Crazy Horse in a 1996 TV film. Later, in 2018, he earned praise for his role as Sitting Bull in the movie Woman Walks Ahead. Michael has also appeared in popular TV series like Fear the Walking Dead, True Detective, and I Know This Much Is True. From 2021 to 2022, he was a main character in the TV comedy Rutherford Falls. He also had a recurring role in the first season of the western series 1923. In 2021, he won a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actor for his work in the zombie film Blood Quantum.

Michael Greyeyes' Early Life and Career
Michael Greyeyes was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. He is from the Plains Cree community. His family comes from the Muskeg Lake First Nation and the Sweetgrass First Nation in Saskatchewan.
Starting as a Dancer
Michael began his career as a dancer. He graduated from The National Ballet School in 1984. He then joined The National Ballet of Canada in 1987.
In 1990, he moved to New York City. There, he joined a modern dance company led by Eliot Feld. Michael performed in many of Feld's famous dance pieces. He also had roles created just for him.
Becoming an Actor and Educator
After years of dancing, Michael also started acting. He later went back to school. He earned a master's degree in Fine Arts in 2003. This degree was from the School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State University.
Michael started his acting career in 1993. His first big role was as Juh in the TV movie Geronimo. This led to many other TV appearances. He guest-starred in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Walker, Texas Ranger, and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. In 1998, he starred in Stolen Women, Captured Hearts. He also appeared in mini-series such as Klondike and Dreamkeeper.
Film Roles and Dance Research
Michael has been in many films. These include Dance Me Outside, Smoke Signals, and Sunshine State. In 2017, he played Chief Sitting Bull in Woman Walks Ahead, acting alongside Jessica Chastain.
He also continued his research into modern forms of traditional dancing, especially Powwow. His journey was shown in a CBC Television documentary called He Who Dreams: Michael on the Powwow Trail.
Recent Work and Achievements
Michael continues to act and dance regularly. He was in the film The New World (2005). He also appeared in Passchendaele, which opened the Toronto International Film Festival in 2008. In 2006, he provided the voice for Tommy Tawodi in the video game Prey. He had a recurring role in Fear The Walking Dead in 2017.
In 2010, Michael started his own company called Signal Theatre. This company creates live performances that mix different cultures and art forms. As the Artistic Director, he has created several major works. One of these, A Soldier's Tale, explored the effects of war on soldiers and their families.
In 2021, Michael won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Actor. This was for his role in the movie Blood Quantum. He also played Terry Thomas, a casino CEO, in the Peacock TV series Rutherford Falls from 2021 to 2022.
In 2021, Michael signed a deal with Blumhouse Productions. He appeared as John Rainbird in the 2022 film Firestarter. This movie is based on a Stephen King novel. In 2023, he was a panelist on Canada Reads, supporting the novel Station Eleven. He has also directed episodes of the TV series Acting Good. In 2024, his first short film, The Light Before the Sun, was shown at the Hamilton International Film Festival.

Michael Greyeyes is an associate professor of theatre at York University. He is married to Nancy Latoszewski. They have two daughters, Lilia and Eva, who were born in 2002 and 2004.
