Rodeo Drive Walk of Style facts for kids
The Rodeo Drive Walk of Style is a special place in Beverly Hills, California, on a famous street called Rodeo Drive. It celebrates people who have made big contributions to the worlds of fashion, design, and movie costumes.
Discovering the Walk of Style
The "Walk of Style" was created in 2003 by the City of Beverly Hills and a group called the Rodeo Drive Committee. They wanted to honor the amazing talent behind our clothes and styles.
A person named Fred Hayman, who is often called "the father of Rodeo Drive," helped come up with the whole idea for the Walk of Style. He was even honored himself in 2011!
The Walk features a cool statue called Torso. It was made by a sculptor named Robert Graham. This statue was shown for the first time at the opening ceremony. Giorgio Armani, a very famous designer, was the first person to be honored there.
Just like the more famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Walk of Style has special bronze plaques set into the sidewalk. Each plaque honors a different person. These plaques even show a small picture of Graham's Torso sculpture. When someone is honored, they also get a small copy of the Torso statue to keep!
