Rodney Eric Terry (born March 27, 1968) is an American college basketball coach. He is currently the head coach for the men's basketball team at the University of Texas at Austin. Coach Terry has led his teams to exciting wins and helped many young players succeed.

Early Life and Education
Rodney Terry was born in Angleton, Texas. He went to Angleton High School and later played college basketball at St. Edward's University in Austin. In 1990, he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration, also studying physical education.
Coaching Career Highlights
Starting Out as a Coach
Terry began his coaching journey as an assistant at St. Edward's in 1990. He then worked as an assistant coach at James Bowie High School in Austin from 1991 to 1993.
His first head coaching job was at Somerville High School. There, from 1993 to 1995, his team had a great record of 49 wins and 21 losses. They even reached the Class 2A semifinals in 1994. He then coached at Angleton High School for one season, bringing his total high school coaching record to 64 wins and 34 losses.
Moving to College Basketball
In 1996, Terry became an assistant coach at Baylor University. After two years, he joined the staff at UNC Wilmington (UNCW). From 1998 to 2002, he helped UNCW reach the NCAA Tournament twice. In 2002, UNCW made history by upsetting #4 seed USC in the first round, which was their first NCAA Tournament win ever!
On June 11, 2002, Terry became an assistant coach at Texas. During his time there, he helped recruit famous players like Kevin Durant and Tristan Thompson. The Texas team also made deep runs in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Final Four in 2003 and the Elite Eight in 2006 and 2008.
Leading the Fresno State Bulldogs
Rodney Terry became the head coach at Fresno State on April 7, 2011. In his first season, the team went 13–20. The next year, Fresno State joined the Mountain West Conference.
In the 2013–14 season, Fresno State had a 21–18 record and played in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). This was their first time winning 20 games and playing in a postseason tournament since 2007. In 2015, Fresno State beat #25 San Diego State, their first win against a ranked team since 2002.
A big moment came in the 2015–16 season when Terry led Fresno State to a 25–10 record. They won the Mountain West Conference tournament and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Coaching the UTEP Miners
On March 12, 2018, Terry was named the new head coach for the University of Texas at El Paso men's basketball team. During his time at UTEP, he faced a health challenge in late 2019 and missed a game. He was expected to make a full recovery. In April 2021, Terry left UTEP to return to Texas as an assistant coach.
Returning to Texas
Terry became the interim head coach for the Texas Longhorns on December 12, 2022, after a change in leadership. He guided the team through the rest of the season, leading them to win their second Big 12 tournament title. The Longhorns also reached the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008.
Because of his great success as interim coach, Rodney Terry was officially named the full-time head coach for the Texas Longhorns on March 27, 2023.
