Playing Basketball Professionally
Detroit Pistons (2001–2002)
Rodney White was a high draft pick, but he did not play much for the Detroit Pistons. The team's new coach, Rick Carlisle, did not use him often. During the 2001–2002 season, White played in only 16 games. He scored about 3.5 points in 8.1 minutes per game.
Denver Nuggets (2002–2005)
The Denver Nuggets believed Rodney White had a lot of skill. In 2002, they traded two players and a future draft pick to get him. White's time in Denver was mixed. He showed great offensive moves sometimes. However, he struggled with playing defense. This made his coach, Jeff Bzdelik, unhappy.
Overall, White scored 7.7 points per game in 186 games with the Nuggets. His best season was 2002–2003. He started some games and averaged 9 points in 72 games.
Golden State Warriors (2005)
After the 2002–2003 season, the Nuggets picked Carmelo Anthony in the draft. With a new star player, the Nuggets traded Rodney White. He was sent to the Golden State Warriors late in the 2004–2005 season.
White played in 16 games for the Warriors. He averaged 5.1 points in about 11.7 minutes per game. His last NBA game was on April 20, 2005. He scored 2 points and had 1 rebound in that game. The Warriors released him the next summer.
Playing Overseas (2005–2013)
After leaving the NBA, Rodney White played basketball in other countries. He played for many different teams, moving often. He first played in Spain for Bàsquet Manresa and then for Lagun Aro Bilbao.
Later, he played in Italy for Scavolini-Gruppo Spar Pesaro. In 2007, he joined the Chinese League team Zhejiang Guangsha Lions. He also played in Puerto Rico for the Arecibo Captains.
In 2008, he signed with Euroleague team Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. He later returned to play for the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions in China. In 2011, he signed with the Anyang KGC team in South Korea.
In 2012, he played in the Philippines for the Barako Bull Energy. He left the team after six games for family reasons. In 2013, he joined the Petron Blaze Boosters in the Philippines. He played only two games for them before being replaced.
