Rodrigo Felinto Ibarra Epitácio Maia was born on June 12, 1970. He is a well-known Brazilian politician. From July 2016 to February 2021, he served as the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil. This is a very important role in Brazil's government.
Rodrigo Maia is a member of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party since 2022. His father, Cesar Maia, was a former Mayor of Rio de Janeiro. Rodrigo Maia was elected as a congressman five times. He served until 2023, when he decided not to run for a sixth term. Before joining his current party, he was part of the Democrats party (formerly PFL) from 1996 to 2021.
Early Life and Education
Rodrigo Maia was born in Santiago, Chile. At that time, his father, Cesar Maia, was living outside Brazil. Rodrigo's birth was officially recorded at the Brazilian consulate in Santiago. He started studying economics at Candido Mendes University. However, he did not finish his degree there.
Beginning His Career
Before becoming a politician, Rodrigo Maia worked in the banking sector. In the early 1990s, he worked for Banco BMG and later for Banco Icatu. These jobs helped him learn about the economy.
From 1997 to 1998, Maia worked for the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro. He served as a Municipal Secretary during this time. In April 2012, he was honored with the title of citizen of the State of Rio de Janeiro. This showed his connection to the state.
In June 2021, the Democrats party decided to remove Maia from their group. This happened after some disagreements between him and the party leaders.
Family Life
Rodrigo Maia has been married to Patrícia Vasconcelos since 2005. They have four children together.
