Rogério Ceni (born 22 January 1973) is a Brazilian professional football coach and former player. He is currently the head coach for Bahia. Many people consider him one of the greatest Brazilian goalkeepers of all time. He is famous for scoring more goals than any other goalkeeper in football history.
Ceni played football for 25 years. He played in an amazing 1,209 official club matches. Most of these matches were for São Paulo. He won 20 major titles with São Paulo. These included three Brazilian Leagues, two Copa Libertadores, and the 2005 FIFA Club World Cup. He scored 129 goals during his career. Most of his goals came from free kicks and penalties.
He also played for the Brazilian national team 17 times. He was part of the teams that won the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup. He also played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Rogério Ceni's Early Life
Rogério Mücke Ceni was born on January 22, 1973, in Pato Branco, Paraná, Brazil.
Playing for Football Clubs

Ceni started his senior football career with Sinop. In 1990, when he was 17, he joined São Paulo. For his first six seasons, he was a backup goalkeeper.
On June 25, 1993, Ceni played his first game for São Paulo's main team. It was a friendly match where São Paulo won 4–1. The next year, he was a starter in the 1994 Copa CONMEBOL. His team won this championship.
In 1997, Ceni became the main goalkeeper for São Paulo. This happened after their previous goalkeeper, Zetti, moved to another team. On July 14, 2005, Ceni was the captain when São Paulo won the 2005 Copa Libertadores. This was the third time the club won this important title. A few weeks later, he broke the record for most appearances for São Paulo. He played his 618th match for the team.
Between 2005 and 2007, Ceni scored an amazing 47 goals. During this time, his club won two national championships and the 2005 FIFA Club World Cup. In the Club World Cup final against Liverpool, he was named the best player of the match. He was also chosen as the most valuable player (MVP) of the whole tournament.
On August 20, 2006, Ceni scored his 63rd goal, setting a new record for goalkeepers. He scored from a free kick against Cruzeiro. In the same game, he scored another goal from a penalty kick. This brought his total to 64 goals. This made him two goals ahead of the previous record holder, José Luis Chilavert.

On October 29, 2006, Ceni played his 700th official game for São Paulo. This was a 2–0 win against Figueirense. At the end of the 2007 season, São Paulo won the league. Ceni was voted the Best Player by the Brazilian Football Confederation.
In April 2009, Ceni broke his ankle during training. He was expected to be out for six months but recovered faster. On October 28, 2010, he played his 700th game as club captain. The next year, on March 27, he scored his 100th goal from a free kick against Corinthians.
On September 7, 2011, Ceni reached 1,000 appearances for São Paulo. In early 2012, he had shoulder surgery. This meant he missed six months of playing.
On June 1, 2012, Ceni returned to the field. He scored a free kick in a 2–0 win against Bahia. His team went on to win the 2012 Copa Sudamericana that year.
Even at 40 years old, Ceni said he still had the same passion for playing. On July 14, 2013, he scored his 111th goal from a free kick.
On December 7, 2013, Ceni signed a new contract with São Paulo for another season. On April 20, 2014, he had three records recognized by Guinness World Records. These were: most goals scored by a goalkeeper, most games played for the same club, and most times as captain.
On October 27, 2014, Ceni broke Ryan Giggs' record for most wins at a single club. He finished the 2014 season with eight league goals. This was his best goal-scoring record in seven years.
Ceni announced his retirement from professional football on December 6, 2015.
Playing for Brazil
Rogério Ceni played for the Brazilian national team for nine years. He played in 16 international matches. He was part of the teams that won the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He was also in the squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. However, he only played in two games in major tournaments.
Coaching Career
Coaching São Paulo
In December 2016, Ceni became the coach for São Paulo. However, after some poor results, he was let go on July 3, 2017.
Coaching Fortaleza
Ceni then signed with Fortaleza to coach their team in 2018. On November 3, 2018, Fortaleza earned a promotion to the top league, Série A. Seven days later, the club won the Série B title for the first time. In 2019, Fortaleza also won the Campeonato Cearense and the Copa do Nordeste.
Coaching Cruzeiro
On August 11, 2019, Ceni became the head coach for Cruzeiro. But he was dismissed on September 26, 2019, after disagreements with some of the club's main players.
Returning to Fortaleza
Just three days after leaving Cruzeiro, Ceni returned to coach Fortaleza. On October 22, 2020, he won the Ceará state title again. This was his fourth title with Fortaleza.
Coaching Flamengo
On November 10, 2020, Ceni agreed to coach Flamengo. He led the club to win the 2020 Série A. However, he was sacked on July 10, 2021.
Returning to São Paulo Again

Ceni returned to São Paulo as head coach on October 13, 2021. He led the team to the finals of the 2022 Campeonato Paulista and the 2022 Copa Sudamericana, but they lost both. On April 19, 2023, Ceni was sacked from São Paulo again.
Coaching Bahia
On September 9, 2023, Ceni became the new coach for Bahia.
How Rogério Ceni Played
Rogério Ceni was a master at taking free kicks and penalties. He was the official taker for São Paulo from 1997 until he retired. During this time, he scored 131 goals. Besides his amazing goal-scoring, he was also a fantastic goalkeeper. He was known for making brilliant saves, like those in the 2005 FIFA Club World Cup final. In that game, São Paulo beat Liverpool 1–0. For his great performance, Ceni won the Golden Ball award, which goes to the best player in the competition. He is considered one of Brazil's greatest goalkeepers ever.
