Early Life and Political Start
Roger Pinto Molina was born in Santa Rosa de Yacuma, a town in the Beni region of Bolivia. He began his political career by being elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1997. This is like being a representative in the country's parliament. He represented the Pando area.
Later, he also served as the Prefect of Pando. A Prefect is a leader or governor of a region, similar to a state governor.
Important Roles and Work
Roger Pinto Molina held many important positions throughout his life. By 2002, he was involved in several organizations. He was a director at the Baptist Church. He also worked as a technical assistant at the Central Bank of Bolivia. This bank helps manage the country's money.
He was also the president of the Telephone Cooperative in Cobija. This group helped provide phone services to people. He also led the Electoral Court of Pando, which oversees elections in the region.
Serving in the Senate
In 2005, Pinto was elected to the Senate. The Senate is another part of Bolivia's government, similar to a higher house of parliament. He was a candidate for the Podemos party. He even became the leader of his party's group in the Senate.
He was re-elected to the Senate in 2009. This showed that people in Pando continued to support him.
Seeking Safety in Brazil
In 2012, Roger Pinto Molina sought refuge in the Brazilian Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia. He was granted asylum by Brazil. This meant Brazil agreed to protect him. However, the Bolivian government did not allow him to leave the country easily.
On August 23, 2013, Pinto left the Brazilian Embassy. He received help from people at the Embassy to travel to Brazil. This event led to the resignation of Brazil's foreign minister at the time.
Later Life and Passing
Roger Pinto Molina passed away on August 16, 2017. He was 57 years old. His death was caused by injuries from a small plane crash. He was piloting the plane himself when the accident happened.
