Roger Willemsen (born August 15, 1955 – died February 7, 2016) was a German writer, essayist, and TV presenter. He was known for his sharp mind and interesting interviews. He wrote many books and hosted popular TV shows.

About Roger Willemsen

Roger Willemsen was born in Bonn, Germany. He finished high school there, which is called Abitur in Germany. He then went to university. He studied German language and literature (called German philology), philosophy, and art history. He studied in Bonn, Munich, and Vienna. He even received a special scholarship to help with his studies.

Roger's TV Career

Roger started his TV career in 1991. He became the main interviewer for a daily talk show called 0137. This show was on a new German TV channel called Premiere. He did about 1,000 interviews! He talked to many different people. This included famous stars like Audrey Hepburn and Madonna. He also interviewed important leaders like Jesse Jackson and Yasser Arafat. He even spoke with people from unusual backgrounds.

Roger was praised for being smart, charming, and funny. His show won many important awards. In 1994, Roger got his own show. It was called Willemsens Woche and was on a public TV channel, ZDF. He stopped working in big TV shows in 2006.

Roger's Writing Life

Roger Willemsen was also a talented writer. He wrote columns for newspapers like Zeit Magazin. He wrote about 50 books in total. Many of his books were inspired by his travels around the world. One famous travel book was Die Enden der Welt (The Ends of the Earth).

His last book, published in 2014, was a bestseller. It was called Das Hohe Haus: Ein Jahr im Parlament. In this book, he wrote about spending a year watching meetings in the German parliament, the Bundestag. He shared his thoughts and observations from inside the government building.

Roger Willemsen passed away on February 7, 2016, at the age of 60. He died from cancer.
