Rohit Bal (born May 8, 1961 – died November 1, 2024) was a famous Indian fashion designer. He was known for creating beautiful clothes for both men and women. Rohit Bal started his fashion journey in 1986. He launched his very own collection in 1990. He also worked with big names like Khadi Gram Udyog and designed costumes for the TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Rohit Bal's Early Life
Rohit Bal was born on May 8, 1961, in Srinagar, a city in the Kashmir Valley of India. His family was from a group called Kashmiri Pandit.
He went to school at Woodlands House School and Burn Hall School in Srinagar. Later, his family had to move out of Kashmir. This happened because of unrest in the area during the 1970s.
His family then moved to New Delhi. There, he finished his schooling at Delhi Public School on Mathura Road. He earned a Bachelor's degree in History from St. Stephens College. This college is part of the University of Delhi. After that, he studied fashion at the National Institute of Fashion Technology.
Rohit Bal's Fashion Career
Rohit Bal began his career in New Delhi in 1986. He started a company called Orchid Oversea Pvt.Ltd with his brother, Rajiv Bal. In 1990, he launched his first fashion collection on his own.
Designing for India and Beyond
Bal was chosen to work with Khadi Gram Udyog. This is the largest handloom textile operation in Panchkula. He helped them create new designs.
He also designed special costumes for the popular Indian game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. This show is very famous in India.
Rohit Bal opened his main store in Delhi. He also had stores in other big Indian cities. These included Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Chennai. Besides clothes, Bal also started designing jewellery.
Signature Style and Collaborations
Rohit Bal was famous for using certain designs. He often featured lotus flowers and peacocks in his work. He loved to use rich fabrics like velvet and brocade. His designs were often very detailed and grand. They were inspired by Indian royalty and history.
He also worked with Biba Apparels to create a special collection. It was called Biba by Rohit Bal.
Rohit Bal had many clients from all over the world. Famous people like Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson, and Uma Thurman wore his designs. Many Indian celebrities also loved his clothes. He was also a brand ambassador for Omega watches.
Health and Passing
In 2010, Rohit Bal had some health problems with his heart. He had a procedure called an angioplasty. In 2023, he faced more heart issues and was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.
Rohit Bal passed away on November 1, 2024, after a heart attack.
Awards and Recognition

- In 2006, he won the 'Designer of the Year' award at the Indian Fashion Awards.
- He also won 'Designer of the Year' at the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001.
